Camping in the Cleveland Metroparks’ backcountry campsites

You can camp in the Cleveland Metroparks at the Ottawa Overlook Backcountry Sites. This is a primitive campground in the Brecksville Reservation with 3 reservable spots. There’s a quarter mile hike through the woods from the Ottawa Point picnic shelter to get to the sites. It’s directly on the Buckeye Trail, so it’s perfect for through-hikers as well. It is currently one of only two camping options inside Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

In this video we’ll tour the sites and take a quick look at a Backpacking Basics overnight trip that the Cleveland Metroparks Outdoor Recreation staff put on.

More information on using these backcountry sites in the Metroparks can be found here: https://www.clevelandmetroparks.com/parks/visit/activities/event-activity-types/backpacking

I’m thrilled that camping is now an option in the Cleveland Metroparks and I hope you get to take advantage of it soon. – John
